MCMC Forums: Candidate Questionnaire Responses

At the Montgomery County Muslim Council (MCMC), we are committed to fostering civic engagement and empowering our community to make informed decisions during elections. As part of this commitment, we recently hosted two candidate forums to educate our community about the candidates running in the Maryland primaries.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the candidates who participated in our District 6 Congressional Seat Candidates Forum and our Board of Education Candidates Forum. Your willingness to engage with our community and respond to our questionnaire demonstrates your dedication to serving the needs and interests of our constituents. Below, you will find a list of candidates who provided answers to our questionnaire and links to their responses.

May 14th Maryland Primary Voter Recommendation Guide

MCMC: Voter Recommendation Guide Process

Montgomery County Muslim Council (MCMC) has taken careful consideration in coming up with our voter guide for the upcoming Maryland primary election cycle of 2024. In order to finalize our list of recommended candidates, we engaged in and leveraged numerous inputs, such as:

  • Candidate meetings
  • Multiple candidates’ forums
  • Meet and Greet events with numerous candidates
  • Soliciting and reviewing candidate questionnaire responses (available on our website) for various offices
  • Background reviews and interviews with separate candidates

As a result of this entire process followed over the past year or so, but mostly in the past few months, we have come up with a list of candidates that we feel are best aligned to serve our community’s needs and be our best representation at the local, state, and national levels. These recommendations are posted on our website and being disseminated throughout the community.

Please note – in some cases, certain candidates failed to respond to our queries in spite of follow up, or declined to participate in our forums.  We were forced to eliminate such candidates from consideration, not having a way to assess their positions. This may have included at times candidates whose positions may find favor with some members of our community.

Montgomery County Muslim Council (MCMC) is a non-partisan organization, focusing its voter recommendations on the values and interests of our community. This process is influenced by the political landscape of Maryland and Maryland election law, which allows Primary voters to only vote for candidates within their registered party. As such, MCMC’s recommendation is to register as a Democrat and vote for the candidates identified.

We recognize this process, in spite of its rigor, does involve some level of judgement. We have tried to do it as best as possible within the limitations of our resources and candidates’ willingness to work with us, and pray to Allah, the Most Merciful, to keep guiding us to act in the way that pleases Him and serves our community best.
