Asif Husain - President
Asif Husain has been a member of the Montgomery County Muslim Council (MCMC) for almost 7 years, serving as the President for the past 5 years. Prior to serving as President, Mr. Husain has been serving on the MCMC Board of Directors (BOD).
Professionally, Asif Husain leads Information Security and Compliance strategy for the Public Sector practice at Smartsheet, a cloud-based SaaS provider in the collaborative work management (CWM) space.
Mr. Husain possesses an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, as well as Masters and Bachelors degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. Asif Husain is married with 3 daughters, all born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland.
S. Qaisar Shareef - Chairperson
S. Qaisar Shareef concluded in 2011 a career of nearly 30 years with Procter & Gamble.
He is the author of a business memoir, When Tribesmen Came Calling: Building an Enduring American Business in Pakistan published in 2017. He is also a regular contributor of opinion columns in The News International, Pakistan’s largest circulation English language daily.
In the past years, Qaisar has taught as adjunct faculty in International Marketing in the School of International Business at the George Washington University. He also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
Qaisar has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He has been based in the Washington, D.C. area since 2013.
Hisham Garti - Community outreach
Hisham is a Moroccan American professional who came to the US at the age of 19 to pursue his education in the state of Texas and has been calling Potomac, Maryland home since 2012.
After 2 degrees in Finance and having enjoyed professional success in areas ranging from financial sales, to management, consulting and financial planning. Hisham has built a diverse career that led him to acquire skills and knowledge. He is dedicated to the responsibility of helping his fellow Muslim Americans achieve their highest potential both professionally and socially.
An avid gym goer who cherishes times with his two children and family. Hisham thrives on giving back to the community and staying attached to his faith and Moroccan heritage.
Mumin Barre - Treasurer
Mumin is a dedicated community activist and advocate with over three decades of experience in community service, grassroots work, and political engagement. He made history as the first African-born individual elected by voters in Montgomery County in the Primary to serve on the governing body of the Montgomery County Democratic Party, representing Maryland District 39.
Mumin has held leadership roles in organizations such as the Maryland District 39 Democratic Club, Montgomery County Sister Cities, and the Montgomery County Executive’s African Affairs Advisory Group.
Mumin holds a Masters degree in Linguistics and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (University of Pittsburgh) and a Paralegal Studies certificate (Montgomery College).
Shafiq Khan
Shafiq Khan has been a pioneer in digital transformation for over two decades, having leveraged digital to transform the travel industry at
both airlines and hotels.
He has led the digital operations of US Airways (now American Airlines) and Marriott International, with digital sales at Marriott rising from ~$150 M to $15B during his tenure.
A few years ago, Shafiq left the business world for the world of social good, to bring the digital revolution to education. He launched Teach the World Foundation in the belief that digital technology has massive potential to transform education.
Shafiq has an economics degree from the Punjab University and an MBA from Harvard University.
Amine Ben Ltaifa
Amine Ben Ltaifa brings his technology expertise and passion for positive change to the Montgomery County Muslim Council. With a background in software engineering and digital product management, Amine brings a holistic approach to his role at the Montgomery County Muslim Council. Through his commitment to innovation and community betterment, he plays an essential role in furthering the mission of the organization. The youngest member of our Board, Amine holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Fatmata Barrie, Esq.
Fatmata Barrie is a practicing attorney with 18 years of client focused and results oriented experience. Her 20 years of experience as a community advocate and organizer with focus on civic engagement and coalition building has helped her strengthen her leadership skills. She is passionate and committed to fair representation in the law, the electoral process, and social and economic justice. She’s a former Montgomery County state delegate candidate who succeeded in galvanizing underrepresented communities to be more civically engaged. Her participation in the 2018 election cycle helped to exceed voter turnout for the 2018 midterm elections.
